Shomaji unwilling to be public prosecutor

Two days after his appointment as Dhaka Metropolitan public prosecutor, Ehsanul Haque Shomaji expressed his unwillingness to join the post.
He sent a letter to the Solicitor, Law and Justice Division today in this regard.
In the letter, Shomaji mentioned that he had been practicing as a lawyer for the last 38 years with honesty and punctuality.
But due to personal/family matters, he is quite unable to join as a Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor.
“I am highly grateful to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for appointing me as a Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor,” Shomaji said in the letter.
On August 27, the government appointed him as Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor.
A gazette notification was issued yesterday by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. He replaced public prosecutor Abdullah Abu, appointed by the previous Awami League government.
Yesterday, pro-BNP lawyers held a rally protesting Shomaji’s appointment as the PP terming him a pro-AL lawyer.
