    Description

My grandmother Pearl dated Edwin Aardal ( one of original artists for Disney) when they both lived in Shelton Washington just before he headed off to California to try out as an animator for The Walt Disney outfit. He sent letters to her with sketches on one side of the page and the letter on the other side. It appears part of the letter describes him heading to a meeting with Walt Disney. Apparently she had no idea at the time how valuable these could be due to her pasting them to her scrapbook. Many Pluto sketches with no letter on the back. I do believe the sketch with musical instruments may be a sketch from Fantasia but am still doing research( I am not clear why he or whom? wrote his name incorrectly in red pencil tho it looks like his print) The two with the ostrich and donkey I am uncertain of what film but am in the process of finding out. He sketched himself listening to the Primo Carnera vs. Joe Louis fight in 1935. He sketched himself at a dance in Hermosa Beach. He got sick while he was out on the working interview with Disney and sketched that. Sketched Pluto, Mickey and Donald Duck biting, throwing and clearly upset at him in case Disney did not want him. My grandmother put in her scrapbook a clipping of the newspaper article of Ed's departure from Shelton Washington to Los Angeles as well as his Obituary. I took these sketches to the antiques road show many years ago and the appraiser said these would be priceless to the right person. Had I not waited in line for 7 hours to get his appraisal, he said he would have put me on T.V.  for the event was at the end and the camera crew was wrapping up. I added a few photos of her scrapbook for some authenticity.  I held one of the sketches  up to the light by accident and saw writing through one of the sketches, that is how I found the letters on the back. I could not help myself and scraped carefully with a razor blade the scrapbook paper to reveal portions of the love letters.I would be willing to sell individual sketches.
