Having been born in the Binghamton area, I looked up information on this company;
my mother remembered having to mix peanut butter after it came from the store when she was a girl.
A quote from "When Binghamton had its own Peanut Butter"
"Early brands (of peanut butter) often had to be mixed by hand and stirred so the oils would be consistent in the jar. One of those brands that older residents recall is Cream Dove Peanut Butter, made by that company from its manufacturing plant on Alice Street on the East Side of Binghamton.
By the 1920's, the firm began to package its products in attractive, multi-colored measuring cups. Once the product inside was used up, the owner merely had to rinse the cup out to have a useful cooking tool. From pink to green to cobalt blue to red, the measuring cups were a hit with the public.
Through the Great Depression and the Second World War, the Cream Dove Manufacturing Co. continued to produce quality products. It eventually added mayonnaise as another product in its business line."
Also from the Broome County Bicentennial Minutes:
"A household name in the Triple Cities in the first half of (the 20th) century was the Cream Dove Manufacturing Company. The company was located on Alice St. on the city’s East side. While in operation, the company produced a variety of products. The best known product of the company was its peanut butter. The peanut butter had to be stirred by the buyers before it could be eaten to make sure that the mixture was smooth. While the company has not been in operation for half a century, many residents can still remember the taste of that product."
