This rare Wide Ruins Navajo rug woven in the 1950s-1960s by master weaver Ruth Yazzie
, is part of a collection of hand spun, hand vegetal dyed, hand woven rugs collected by the owner of The Zuni Shop in Gallup, New Mexico. The Zuni Shop closed in the late 1960s and these rugs were collected and stored rolled in plain newsprint paper in moth proof trunks.
The vegetal dyes were picked by the weaver and the sheared wool was kettle dyed by the weaver before being hand spun into the yarn used in this weaving. The gray is a blend of natural sheep wool.
