This listing is for the heavy and thick glass blue Philadelphia blob top Ale bottle with some irredescence. This blown bottle is deep aqua in color, light irredescence in places and measures approx 9-1/2" tall by 2-3/4" wide.
Dating to the 1870s, this crude example has has an excellent hand applied bulbous blob top, stretch marks, wavyness, and air bubbles. It would have once had a Putnam Stopper, circ: 1859-1905, invented by: Henry William Putnam, American Patent: March 15, 1859.
This great Chas Joly bottle is embossed on both the front and back side of the bottle as follows:
CHAS JOLY
NO. 9
SO SEVENTH ST
PHILADELPHIA
THIS BOTTLE
NOT TO
BE SOLD
Unfortunately, there is a 1 5/8" x 1.25" chip on the side of the bottle. But since the glass is so thick, it does not go through the glass. No other cracks or chips that I can see. Some bubbles in the glass and lines from manufacture.
